This story is about a Lebanese beekeeper who compares his community to bees—resilient, united, and persistent in the face of hardship. Over decades of beekeeping, he built an apiary, orchards, and crops, only to see them destroyed multiple times by war. In one blow, he lost 250 avocado trees, tobacco fields, his house, and his bees, wiping out what felt like 35 years of work. Yet, like the bees that endure every season, he continues to rebuild. After losing everything in 2006, he restored his livelihood, only to face destruction again years later. Through it all, he teaches his family the same perseverance he learned from bees. When he faltered, his son reminded him of his own words to his late father: “We earned our livelihood, and we will come back again.” This cycle of loss and renewal reflects not just his personal struggle, but the resilience of Lebanon itself.
